The Parliament Library of Sri Lanka, a rich repository of Parliament publications, and other pertinent resources was established in the year of 1927 to assist members of the Parliament.
The subject range of books in the Library is extensive as well as comprehensive. It includes almost all subjects in the field of knowledge with special emphasis on subjects such as Political Science, Economics, Law, Public Administration, Social Welfare, Education, History, Geography, and so on. Advanced Science and Technology are excluded from the subject composition, taking into consideration the needs of the users of the Library. Special attention has been paid to constantly build up the collection by acquiring foreign literature in political, legal, and international relations.
Satisfying the information needs of Members of Parliament is the main objective of the library and it is the main reason for the existence of the library. The services rendered by the Library are varied. In order to facilitate Members with their information needs, the Library is divided into three main sections viz.
